NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State junior
Polina Konop was named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week following her performances against Southland foe Sam Houston State, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The Kiev, Ukraine native earned the award after defeating SHSU's Imke Jagau 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 position. She also overpowered the duo of Natalie Petaia and Sheridan Currie with teammate
Natalya Krutova 8-4 in doubles action at the No. 2 spot.
With the wins, her singles record improves to a team-best 11-2 overall and 4-0 in SLC play while her doubles record moves to 9-4, 4-0.
This is Konop's second player of the week award this season and the third for the NSU tennis team.
Konop and the Lady Demons travel to Nacogdoches on Friday to match up against Stephen F. Austin at 11 o'clock.
