NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State sophomore Tatiana Larina was named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance at the Florida Gulf Coast Eagle Invite, the conference office announced Tuesday.
 
Last year's SLC Freshman of the Year, Larina finished fifth in the No. 1 singles flight over the weekend, going 2-1 in her bracket. The Taganrog, Russia native defeated Liberty's Alexandra Sheeran, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4, and North Texas' Barbora Vykyladova 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
 
Larina teamed up with NSU senior Andrea Nedorostova in doubles competition to advance to the championship round in the No. 2 flight after winning two previous matches.
 
The Lady Demon pair fell in the championship match, 9-7, to Johanna Sterkel and Gyanna Mandic of FGCU.
 
Larina and the NSU tennis squad head to LSU on Saturday for their first dual team match of the season.
