AUBURN, Ala.—Northwestern State sophomore tennis player,
Tatiana Larina captured the sole singles win for the Lady Demons in the first day of the Auburn Invitational on Friday. Junior Polina Knopp and freshman
Natalya Krutova took the Lady Demons only win in doubles play.
Larina went up against Tennessee-Chattanooga's Jenna Nurik in the first flight of singles play and advanced to the next round after winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Larina will compete for third place in her flight on Saturday.
Knopp and Krutova defeated fellow Lady Demon
Olga Leyshyna, who was teamed up with Houston's Liselot Koenen, 8-1 in the second doubles flight. Knopp and Krutova will continue play Saturday against Mississippi State's Tran and VanGeel.
Also advancing into the championship bracket for Northwestern State in doubles are
Daniela Simonova and
Amy Williams. The duo was dealt a BYE for their first match that automatically moved them on to the semifinals for the third flight.
NSU athletes who did not advance to the championship bracket will continue play on Saturday in the consolation bracket. Their results for Friday are as follows:
