NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State women's tennis standouts
Olga Bazhanova and
Andrea Nedorostova were chosen for the six-woman Southland Conference Women's Tennis All-Academic Team announced Tuesday.
Each earned their second appearances on the all-academic teams.
Bazhanova, a first-team all-conference selection at No. 1 doubles, graduated earlier this month with a 3.05 GPA in health and human performance. The Nikolaev, Ukraine, native posted a 17-2 overall mark, 9-2 in Southland regular-season play, in No. 1 doubles. She had a 13-6 overall record at the No. 1 singles position and a 48-31 career mark while playing No. 1 in her last three seasons.
She was the team captain as a squad with five newcomers, four in the regular lineup, finished 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the conference. Bazhanova finished tied for third in school history with 64 doubles wins, going 64-20 in her career.
Nedorostova's GPA of 3.93 in communications is the highest among all 12 student-athletes on the all-academic team. The Brno, Czech Republic, native earned second-team all-conference in doubles for the third consecutive year, posting an 8-3 conference record and a 15-4 overall mark. At No. 4 singles, she was 13-6.
Her career 54-7 doubles record is seventh all-time at NSU. She is 13 wins away from tying the school record. Nedorostova has been elected team captain for the 2012-13 Lady Demons in her senior season.
