NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State junior women's tennis standout Andrea Nedorostova has been named the recipient of the Michael Peter Manno Endowed Leadership/Service Award in Communication at the university.

The honor is presented annually to a communications major at NSU who demonstrates excellence in leadership and exhibits potential to become a leader at NSU and in the field. Nedorostova has a grade point average of 3.93 on a 4.0 scale, and has just been elected captain of the Lady Demon tennis team for 2012-13. She represents the team on the NSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and is also a weathercaster for NSU TV.

An Academic All-America nominee, she posted a 15-4 record at No. 2 doubles with freshman Tatiana Larina this year, and was 13-6 at No. 4 singles while helping Northwestern finish 14-5 overall. She is a three-time All-Southland Conference selection in doubles, earning first-team honors in each of the last two seasons. She won second-team all-conference honors in singles as a freshman when she helped the 2010 Lady Demons win the Southland championship and reach the NCAA Tournament with a 21-2 record.

Nedorostova, a native of Brno in the Czech Republic, is bidding to make All-Louisiana and the Academic All-Southland Conference teams for the third straight year.

She is 54-7 in doubles play at NSU, ranking seventh on the school's career doubles wins list. With a 47-15 career singles mark, she is two wins away from cracking the all-time top 10 in that category.
