Lady Demons visit Alcorn State for doubleheader

ALCORN, Miss. – Having won four of its last five games all by shutout, the Northwestern State softball team will travel to Alcorn State for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

 

Play will begin at 2 p.m. with a 30 minute break between games. NSU comes into the contest 17-24 overall and 5-9 in the SLC, while Alcorn State is 7-32 overall and 2-11 in the SWAC.

 

The Lady Demons are coming off a 2-0 victory over Texas-Arlington on Saturday. Sara Aasness picked up the win after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings.

 

As a staff, NSU has allowed just one earned run in the last 36 innings. Kylie Roos leads the rotation with six wins and a 3.40 ERA.

 

Brianna Rodriguez has powered the lineup as of late, hammering home runs in two of the last three games. She hits for a .311 average on the season and has six homers and a .524 slugging percentage.

 

Samantha Roberts leads the team with seven homers on the year and has reached base safely in all of the last 10 games. Tara McKenney ranks 12th in the SLC with a .353 batting average.

 

NSU is 6-0 all-time against Alcorn State and defeated the Braves 4-0 and 2-0 last season.

 

The Lady Demons will resume conference play this weekend with a two-game series at Nicholls State. Game one will be on Friday at 6 p.m., and the second begins on Saturday at noon.
