FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas used a four-run fourth inning to then held off a couple of late Northwestern State charges as the 4th-ranked Razorbacks defeated the Demons 6-2 to sweep the two-game college baseball series here Wednesday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Demons to 1-2 on the season as they head into a three-game home weekend series against Southern.  Arkansas ran its record to 5-0 but it didn't come easy against the scrappy Demons.

The Razorbacks, who outscored Villanova by a 43-7 margin in a season-opening three-game series over the weekend, had to rally from a 6-4 deficit to the Demons on Tuesday and scored the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to take an 8-7 victory.

On Wednesday, the Demons jumped out on top in the fourth inning when left fielder Nick Doughty got a one-out triple then scored off a Nick Hinojos single to make it 1-0 Demons.

Arkansas followed with a lead-off home run by second baseman Bo Bigham in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 1-1.

Designated hitter Jacob Mahan followed with a single through the right side and after he took second on a wild pitch by Demon starter Andrew Adams, first baseman Dominic Ficociello singled to left field to score Bigham and give the Hogs a 2-1 lead.

Third baseman Matt Reynolds capped off the inning with a two-run home run to make it 4-1 before Adams was able to pitch out of the inning.

Adams (0-1) was hit with the loss after he allowed four runs, all earned, on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

The Demons closed the gap to 4-2 after catcher Todd Wallace belted a solo home run to lead-off the sixth inning but the Demons weren't able to build on that momentum as the next three batters went down in order.

Arkansas got the run back in the seventh off a Tim Carver double to make it 5-2 and the Demons attempted an eighth inning rally when Shaun Hoover led things off with a double followed by a Wallace walk.  But two straight ground outs and a strikeout ended the threat.

The Razorbacks added a sixth run with two outs in the eighth after Reynolds doubled then scored off a Jimmy Bosco single.

Unlike on Tuesday, Arkansas outhit the Demons 8-7 in Wednesday's game as Reynolds led the way with a 2-for-4 game with two RBI, a home run, double and two runs scored.

Buckley led the way for the Demons at the plate with a 2-for-4 showing while Hinojos and Wallace each had an RBI.  Wallace hit the Demons' first home run of the season.

Mark Reyes (1-0) got the win for the Razorbacks on the mound after he relieved starter Greg Milhorn to start the fourth inning in what was a predetermined set of innings for the Arkansas starter.

Reyes was the second of seven Hog pitchers to see the bump as he threw just one inning and gave up one run on two hits.

The Demons will be back in action on Friday when they open a three-game series against Southern, beginning at 6:30 at Brown-Stroud Field.
