NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State scored early and often and the Demons won their fifth straight game after beating Grambling, 16-2, at Brown-Stroud Field on Tuesday.
Leftfielder Eric DeBlanc led NSU's 18-hit attack with a 3 for 5 game to go along with four RBIs and two runs scored. Every Demon in the starting lineup had at least one hit.
Catcher Aaron Munoz went 2 for 3 with two RBIs; rightfielder Tyler Baisley finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs; designated hitter Stephen Gandy 2 for 4 with a RBI; and second baseman Josh Gardiner 2 for 5 with a RBI.
Starting pitcher Brett Fredieu ran his record to 2-0 after he went four innings and gave up one run on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Toby Remedies, Mason Melatokis and Chad Sheppard combined to throw the remaining five innings and allowing one run and four hits with four strikeouts.
The game was decided in the first inning after the Demons plated nine runs in the frame - all with two outs. DeBlanc and Chase Lyles each had two-run doubles in the frame as NSU sent 12 batters to the plate.
The Demons got three more runs in the bottom of the second off a solo home run by DeBlanc followed by a two-run double by Oscar Garcia.
Grambling scored its first run of the game off a sacrifice fly by Milton Barney to make it 12-1.
RBI singles by Baisley and Gandy put NSU up 14-1 after four innings, and after Grambling scored in the fifth, the Demons plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 16-2.
The Demons return to action on Wednesday when they host Centenary at 6:30.
