NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State Director of Athletics Greg Burke announced Thursday that Lady Demon head volleyball coach Brittany Uffelman will resign her position to pursue other professional opportunities.

Uffelman just wrapped up her fourth season as head coach for the Lady Demons and sixth as a member of the staff.

This year’s team finished 3-21 overall and 2-14 in the Southland Conference and missed out on the league postseason tournament for the first time in five seasons.  The previous four SLC Tournament berths were the first for the program since joining the league in 1987.

“Brittany is appreciated for the six years of service that she has devoted to the NSU volleyball program, including the past four as head coach,” said Burke.  “She has been very good for the program and for the University in terms of public relations and community involvement.  Succinctly put, she has been a good representative for NSU.  We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

During her head coaching career at NSU, Uffelman’s teams posted a 35-64 overall record and 19-45 record in league play.

Her 2007 team finished sixth in the conference and picked up its first-ever SLC tournament win after knocking off third-seed Texas-Arlington by a 3-1 score.

Uffelman also coached NSU’s first-ever SLC All-Academic player in Yelena Enwere, also a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2008 and 2009.  She finished her career third on the NSU all-time career kills list.

Uffelman, a Wyoming native and a 2004 graduate of Montana State-Billings, arrived at NSU for the 2004 season and spent two years as an assistant coach before taking over the reigns in 2006.

In 2005, Uffelman helped coach the Lady Demons to a school record nine conference wins while qualifying for their first-ever postseason tournament.

Uffelman is also very active as a huddle leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization.

“I fell in love with the Natchitoches community and feel very blessed to have been associated with all the NSU student athletes over the years both through coaching and FCA,” said Uffelman.  “It’s bittersweet, but I’m very excited about returning home.”

Burke added that a search for Uffelman’s replacement will begin almost immediately.

Did ESPN's SportsCenter rank Paul Harris' sensational 11-yard TD run highly enough at No. 4 on Plays of the Day Saturday?
No. 4 was a fair spot considering the Top 3
C'mon, pro golfers make aces over and over again
Could've been top 2
It was the most eye-catching play, no doubt
Can't wait to see what Harris and the Demons do Saturday at home vs. Samford
