NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State baseball
head coach Jon Paul Davis has announced the signing of two outfielders - Drew Helenihi
and Jordan Buckley, both of which complete the Demons' 2010 signing class.
Helenini, a 6-0, 170 pound lefty from Livermore,
California, hit .340 this past season with Chabot College. He finished the year with three home
runs, 35 RBIs, 10 doubles, three triples, and 45 runs scored.
Buckley, a 6-0, 170 pound righty from Flower
Mound, Texas and New Mexico Junior College, was a 22nd round draft
choice by the Atlanta Braves in this past June's MLB Draft.
He hit .360 with four home runs, 41 RBIs,
three doubles, nine triples, and stole 25 bases.
"Drew and Jordan are both extremely talented
outfielders," said Davis who had to make the late signees after NSU lost two
underclassmen to the MLB Draft - pitcher Chad Sheppard and outfielder Oscar
Garcia. "They are both plus
runners and plus throwers who should have an immediate impact on our lineup in
2011.
"Both are also outstanding student who
should fit in very well within Demon baseball and NSU athletics. We are vey pleased to have both of
these guys joining us."
The duo completes a signing class of 12
penned by the Demons for the 2011 season.
