NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State Demon World Series continued on Saturday night with Team Wolfpack taking a 9-2 win over Team Dirtbags in game two of the three-game series.

That win came a day after the two teams tied 3-3 in 11 innings on Friday night.  Team Wolfpack must win Sunday’s finale to notch the World Series title.

Wolfpack shortstop Trent Grondin and left fielder Matt Yerby got things going in the bottom of the first inning with a single and double in back-to-back at bats.  Right fielder Tyler Baisley then drove in Grondin on a fielder’s choice to make it 1-0 after one inning.

In the second, the Wolfpack led off the inning with three consecutive hits and a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0.

That would be all the run support Wolfpack starting pitcher Trevor Geist would need as he threw an impressive 5.1 innings with three strikeouts while giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits – four of those infield base knocks.

Freshman pitcher Adam Sullivan, a St. Mary’s HS product, came in on relief of Geist and threw the final 1.2 innings of the 7-inning contest and gave up one hit while striking out two.

Team Wolfpack went up 4-0 in the third after Baisley belted a solo home run, then tacked on five more runs over the next three innings, highlighted by a RBI triple from third baseman Adam Roy.

Roy led the squad with three hits and a RBI while Yerby finished with two hits.

Team Dirtbags were led at the plate by centerfielder Oscar Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with three infield singles.

Just what we need - Grade A
Even more exciting than last year's No. 1-ranked class - Grade A+
Very strong, maybe not as splashy as last year - Grade B+
Expect to see another 14 or so true freshmen play in 2010
