NATCHITOCHES - The Team Dirtbags and Team Wolfpack played to a grueling 3-3, 11-inning tie on Friday to cap of the first game of the Northwestern State Demon World Series.

The three-game series continues on Saturday at 7 followed by a 2 p.m. start in Sunday's finale..

Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Team Dirtbag senior outfielder Eric DeBlanc  hit a sinking liner off of Team Wolfpack closer Chad Sheppard to drive in two runs and tie the game at 3-all.

Sheppard, who tied a Demon school record last year with 10 saves, then struck out Chris Hebert to end the inning and send the game into extra frames.

The game was called after 11 innings due to concerns over pitching availabilities for games two and three.

Team Wolfpack was led at the plate by junior transfer third baseman Adam Roy with three hits while freshman outfielder Jacob Williford popped a double with two runs batted in.

Team Dirtbags were led by junior transfer centerfielder Oscar Garcia with three hits while freshman first baseman Matt Farmer had two hits and DeBlanc with a single and two RBIs.

The performance of the night came from freshman LHP Andrew Adams who gave up no runs and just one hit in four innings while striking out nine for Team Wolfpack.  Mathias Simmons also had a nice outing after throwing four scoreless innings in relief work for Team Dirtbags.  He gave up two hits while striking out five.  Both pitching staffs combined to strikeout 25 batters.

What do you think about the 2010 Demon football signing class?
Just what we need - Grade A
Even more exciting than last year's No. 1-ranked class - Grade A+
Very strong, maybe not as splashy as last year - Grade B+
Expect to see another 14 or so true freshmen play in 2010
I'm always in the "wait and see" mode on signees
